Today was another big job ticked off for the mini renovation. We had an electrician in to replace all of our light switches and power points, to update the colour and style to match our new paint scheme (to be done next week). He took a bit over three hours to do the job. He left all of the face plates off so that the painters can paint around them and then we can snap the new face plates on to cover the painting lines and leave the surfaces with a gleaming clean look, without any stray paint getting onto them. Our old switches had some paint marks from the previous paint job, so this will be a nice cleaning up.
This involved moving things like the refrigerator to get access to the power point behind it, and also the clothes dryer in the laundry, since it was blocking access to the power point for it and the washing machine. Which meant seeing just how much dust had built up behind and on these appliances… It was a lot. Also, I didn’t realise the clothes dryer has an air intake on the back! It was clogged with a thick layer of lint, which I removed. Hopefully this will improve its performance!
I also moved two chests of drawers in the bedroom to allow access to power points adjacent to them, and there was more cleaning required behind those. Dust, spider webs, and some mould spots that I hit with vinegar.
In between I worked on a class for tonight, since I’m restarting Outschool classes for this week before another break during next week’s painting. I had a one-on-one lesson with the kid doing essay writing skills, and we covered plagiarism (and how to avoid it) and using AI tools (and how to avoid using them badly).
And now time for a bit of a relax before bed.
